With music and storytelling being a part of his life since birth, Jacob learned the power of narrative and the influence it can have on those around you. At age 11 his passion for writing his own lyrics and telling his own stories began.
After graduating school, J-MILLA released his first independent EP with a ticketed launch party show in Adelaide, attended by over 200 people.
The music video for his debut single ‘My People’ recently passed 75,000 views on YouTube and he has also collaborated with prominent Australian electronic artist M4SONIC on the track ‘Matchstick’ which has had over 150,000 streams on Spotify.
Jacob’s lyrical content is not all political however, his words speak to not only his indigenous culture, but also those of a young upcoming rapper in the scene. “I write all my own lyrics which are generally a reflection of my life experiences, it’s not my intention to isolate anyone in particular and I hope what I write can bring people together, especially for a good time. I am truly inspired by those around me. Obviously I love listening to other rappers but I try to ensure what I make and release is purely me.” - J-MILLA.
