Initially known as one-half of successful reggaeton duo Dyland & Lenny, Puerto Rican singer Lenny Tavárez struck out as a solo artist, becoming a significant figure of the Latin trap movement.
Always one of the more romantic reggaeton artists, his trap material is bright and tuneful rather than cold and bleak, and he resembles a pop or R&B star more than a rapper. The San Juan-born singer formed Dyland & Lenny with his friend Carlos Castillo Cruz in 2009, after the two had turned away from potential careers as basketball players in order to become musicians. Debut album My World, produced by Luny Tunes, appeared in 2010, with My World 2 following two years later. Both were hits, and the duo collaborated with stars such as Pitbull, Gusttavo Lima, and Luis Fonsi. Dyland & Lenny split by the end of 2013, and Tavárez began releasing solo singles including "La Nena," "Fantasias," and "Torturo" (featuring Pusho). He gradually embraced trap with singles such as "No Quiere Amor" (featuring Farruko) and "Caviar." ~ Paul Simpson
