From Westfalia, In Search of a Rose is an aggressive German folk-rock outfit whose punk attitude and exceptional playing recalls early Pogues.
They relied on acoustic instruments like the banjo, whistle, mandolin, and accordion to augment their songs, but in a rock manner. Despite their German roots, their original songs suggest a Celtic sound with other European influences virtually undetectable. Their impressive debut recording Conquering (1995) was well-received in select regions of Germany, but failed to generate widespread acceptance. The EP Freaks followed in 1996 and Fresh Lotus Surprise in 1997 in a similar stylistic and unceremonious fashion. In Search of a Rose changed gears with their 2000 release Extravaganza to incorporate a more alternative pop/rock sound. ~ Dave Sleger, Rovi
