Anenon is Brian Allen Simon, a musician and composer based in his native city of Los Angeles. Consistently shedding the non-essential in search of a deep and individualized core, Brian’s music feels potent and refined, yet always searching and raw.
An experimental artist using a variety of tools, Brian mines the intersections of free improvisation, electronics, modernist classical, and spiritual ambience. Simon has performed internationally supporting the likes of Morton Subotnick, Julia Holter, Richard Hell, and more. A distinguished alumni of the 2011 Red Bull Music Academy as well as a 2017 resident at Villa Lena in Tuscany, Italy, Simon has guest lectured at CalArts, and was a co-curator of Monument, a series of ambient music performances at MOCA in 2016 and ‘17. He is also a long time host of Non Projections, a monthly program on LA radio institution dublab. Brian and frequent collaborator Jon-Kyle Mohr are responsible for 2016’s Shattered Streams, a web experiment in musical ephemerality, commissioning work from artists such as William Basinski and Fennesz. Alongside multiple LP’s and EP’s issued on his own Non Projects record label, Simon has released music on labels Friends of Friends, Ghostly International, and more. Petrol, Brian’s third and latest LP has garnered widespread acclaim from outlets such as The Guardian, The Wire, Pitchfork, and many more. @Tongue, his fourth studio LP will be released on Friends of Friends on February 9, 2018.
