Rob released his first EP 'Tiki Tapu' in 2014 that collected a string of awards including "Best Māori Album” (Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards), the prestigious APRA Maioha Award, and several Waiata Māori Music awards. His debut album 'PŪMAU' was released in 2015 and was also greeted with several awards of distinction.
His new album SURVIVANCE with his band The Witch Dr. (an alliance of some of Aotearoa’s hottest musicians, Darren Mathiassen - 'Shapeshifter,' James Illingworth - 'Bliss n Eso,' Tyna Keelan - 'The Nok' and Johnny Lawrence - 'Electric Wire Hustle') confirms the diversity of his gifts and in 2017 received the honor of being named as one of five Laureate Award recipients in the NZ Arts Foundation Awards.
SURVIVANCE by Rob Ruha and The Witch Dr. brings Māoritanga into the mainstream with unflinching confidence, great tunes and their brand of music Rob calls ‘Haka-Soul.’
With summery funk and R’n’B soul that has something to say, SURVIVANCE promotes the Māori nation as current, spirited, prophetic, and unrelenting in their pursuit of self determination - a trademark of Robs music to date.
