Pernille Bévort - saxophonist/composer (tenor- and soprano saxophone, flutes, clarinets)
Danish saxophone player, composer and bandleader Pernille Bévort is and has always been a unique person on the Danish jazz scene. She sets her own marks and stands proudly for her musical conviction. She is known for her intense and creative saxophone playing with everything from duos to big bands. In her music you constantly sense a clear and distinct direction; beautiful sonic timbres, exciting rhythmic and melodic progress and – above all – excellent solos.
As a member of The Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band and as a frequent substitute with the Danish Radio Big Band, she has performed with a lot of international artists. Among these are: Randy Brecker, Tony Coe, Putte Wickman, Tim Hagans, John Scofield, Richard Bona and Charlie Watts.
She has on several occasions toured with the Bohuslän Big Band in Gothenburg, Sweden. Among others a tour with the Grammy awarded composer/arranger Maria Schneider.
Furthermore Pernille is part of the new Danish 13-piece ensemble MALUBA Orchestra with Marilyn Mazur, Fredrik Lundin and Kasper Bai as the three co-leaders. Pernille has also toured with singer Cæcilie Norby as part of “European Sisters in Jazz”.
At present Pernille Bévort is band leader in her trio Bévort 3 and the septet Radio Bévort. Oct. 2020 Pernille was nominated for a DMA Jazz as composer 2020. April 11th 2021 she received an honorary award from the Danish Conductors Association.
