    Hell Is on Its Way
Conceived in the perfect echo chambers of Canada’s cheap motel bathrooms, Meres (formerly Disrepute) is the solo project of Mary Shannon (Bansheeland, Teens, Thieves, Isla Ka and Joel on Joel).
Based in northern Tasmania, Australia, Shannon’s solo writing is awash with reverberant vocal delay, menacing dissonance and tumbling electronic beats. Her abstract, multilayered approach cites influences from the likes of Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz, U.S slacker rockers Bad History Month and Australian punk icon Adalita.
Meres’ dreamy stoner punk explores Shannon’s reflections on the obscure, the dissident and the mundane, as written through the atonal gauze of her own unique and abstract feedback loop. Depending on mood, her live set switches between solo performance featuring trash beat electronic drums and the full wrath of her four-piece band. In July 2017 Disrepute was selected by Kram (drummer and vocalist for multi Aria Award winning Australian rockers Spiderbait) as the Tasmanian State representative for the APRA/AMCOS supported national songwriting mentorship project One Eye On The Stranger. The project saw Meres write and workshop a new song under the mentorship of Kram before being invited to join him on the stage with fellow collaborators from each state to perform to packed out Tasmanian audiences as part of winter music festival Festival Of Voices at Hobart’s City Hall.
Meres is currently writing her debut EP, which is due to be released mid 2018.
