It’s a cliché that often you must travel the furthest distance only to discover what was right under your nose all along.
Yet this was precisely the experience of siblings Ryan and Kaylee Williams, who together form The Native Sibling. Although they had both played music since they were kids, it wasn’t until 2011 that their musical tastes intersected. After informally singing together in a pub in Ireland – the two realized that music was an endeavor that they wanted to continue with each other’s company.
It was a homecoming of sorts for the two to begin sharing songs back and forth. The writing began to quickly highlight the strengths of both individuals – Kaylee’s delicate vocals and Ryan’s intertwining guitar work. They were able to easily trust one another musically and to create a unique expression that was their own.
They began with recording a 4-song EP in a friends’ apartment in 2011. After the release and a stint of touring the two went to record again– this time with producer Daniel Mendez (Heart, Noah Gundersen, Duran Duran) in Brooklyn, NY. The result was their first studio album Letters Kept to Ourselves, which claimed them the iTunes best singer-songwriter album of the year in 2014. After national touring of the album, they teamed up again with Mendez to create their sophomore album Hammer Is Heart. Recorded in Austin, TX – this album is set to release in 2019 via AntiFragile Records.
