Brought up on a strict diet of Stevie Wonder, Prince, James Brown and Michael Jackson, as well as Robert Glasper, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, Ryan injects some jazz and soul into the nu-funk idiom.
With over 17 years professional experience, Ryan has worked alongside numerous artists and bands of note, including: Octofunk, The Dizzy Club, Nicola Farnon, The Dark Side Of The Lounge, The Alpha Manoeuvre, Emily West and the Cookin Pots to name a handful of the talented musicians that contributed to Ryan’s musical vocabulary, experience and success.
Building on the success of his original material, Ryan’s current line-up consists of some of the north's finest players. This raw and colourful ensemble features outstanding musicianship and improvisation from it’s members, which is reminiscent of the jazz masters of the past whilst clearly drawing influences from modern jazz and hip-hop artists.
Studying at Leeds College of Music, Ryan holds a BA Degree in Jazz and a Masters Degree in Performance and Composition.
