The Fine Line began as a series of jam sessions between drummer Stephen Reynolds and guitarist Mike Frederiksen in 2014.
After a few months, The Fine Line began efforts to bring in other musicians in order to complete the line-up. After a year long search to find a vocalist to fit the band yielded no results, Reynolds and Frederiksen challenged each other to take on the vocals for the band themselves. This is the origin of The Fine Line's first album title "When Necessity Calls." Starting in 2016, the band began jamming on two of guitarist Mike Frederiksen's old songs, "Trapped in a Box" and "Better Days."
This sparked a fury of inspiration and creativity that resulted in the band's first complete songs "High Note" and "King of the Meaningless." The catchy hooks and punchy upbeat melodies provided by the two songs gave the band its "sound." From 2016 through the spring of 2017, The Fine Line developed and wrote 20 songs. Later that year, the band began work on a year and half effort to record "When Necessity Calls."
The Fine Line offers an eclectic take on rock music thanks to the contrasting backgrounds and influences of both drummer Stephen Reynolds and guitarist Mike Frederiksen. Reynolds’ punchy, hard hitting, alternative and rock opera inspired drum beats joined forces with Frederiksen's aggressive punk and grunge inspired licks. Together, they resulted in album that is diverse in style and full of catchy hooks.
