BATTS is the moniker for the mesmerising and melancholic Melbourne based musician Tanya Batt. Citing musical influences such as Sigur Ros, Bon Iver and Stevie Nicks, it’s no surprise that BATTS’ music is both emotional and powerfully executed.
BATTS’ debut EP is titled ’62 Moons’ and is available now through THAA Records.
Named after the 62 Moons of Saturn, the obsession with space is an underlying theme throughout the
record, from the NASA recording of Saturn’s rings which opens the recording, to the EP title.
BATTS explains “When NASA began to release the sounds of space it blew my mind. Saturn has always been my favourite for many reasons but when I first heard the sound of Saturn’s rings, it really connected. In that moment, I had the thought of combining the music we create as humans, with the natural music of things out in space that have existed for billions and billions of years. I want to instil knowledge of space within music to people, but not via lyrics - via sounds.”
In her short career so far, BATTS has gained International radio support from the likes of triple j (Australia), BBC Radio 1 and Radio X (U.K), and also KCRW (USA).
“There's something about BATTS latest single, "Little White Lies," that sounds like the Radiohead I knew” - Indie Shuffle
