From playing their first gigs in the winter of 1980, the trio went on to tour NZ relentlessly building a cult following along the way.
1983 saw the band take on keyboard player Liam Ryan and with it a more mainstream sound., they were signed to major record label CBS (Sony), and went on to become a household name. The Narcs had a slew of radio hits and has won numerous RIANZ awards. In 1986 Tony Waine won the APRA Silver Scroll for Abandoned By Love. The Narcs’ recording legacy includes two EP’s Narcs and No Turning Back, several singles, three studio albums: “The Great Divide” (1984), “The Narcs” (1986) “Push The Boat Out” (1996), and a compilation “Best of The Narcs” (2002).
More recently, the band has released three new singles/videos ‘Summerhill Stone’, ‘Not Over’ and ‘I Don’t Want To Go To Work Today’, appeared at Canterbury’s Selwyn Sounds 2018, toured with Australia’s Psuedo Echo, hit the road with the ‘Not Over Summer Tour’ in 2019, headline Nelson’s Marchfest 2019, played a series of The Narcs Unplugged winter and summer tours in NZ and Australia and opened for Icehouse at Auckland’s Aotea Centre before a sold out audience in March 2020. LATEST NEWS: The Narcs 3rd studio album 'Push The Boat Out' is to be released on Spotify Wednesday 28th October, 2020. This album was previously only released on CD IN 1996.
