Several of Gammage’s 1990s albums were originally released with France’s influential New Rose Records (Alex Chilton, Gun Club, Alejandro Escovedo, The Replacements, Calvin Russell) and many of those songs are now available on the excellent Motel Songs compilation album. In the years before the music genre term, “Americana” was even being used, Phil was exploring blues, country, and folk music ideas on these European albums. By paying tribute to these styles through his own songwriting, Gammage gave the music a fresh and unique sound.
After a hiatus of several years from performing and recording, Phil returned in 2014 with his stellar Adventures in Bluesland. This was followed in 2015 by The American Dream and in 2016 by the critically acclaimed Used Man For Sale.
Phil Gammage is the consummate live performer, lyricist, singer, guitarist, and harmonica player who brings a unique depth and drama to his music.
