In her original material, Fatima draws on life experiences of growing up in war torn Bosnia in the midst of deadly conflict with only a few sparks of hope. It is this unwavering hope and love for the world that gives her the strength to be vulnerably comfortable when expressing herself through music that undoubtedly makes listeners feel emotions they didn’t think a stranger could make them feel. Candid storytelling in between songs gives listeners the inside stories about inspirations and reasons why she wrote each song and it is this banter that makes Fatima even more human and relatable to her audience.
Although Fatima has performed with a band in the past, it’s her “one woman show” that makes you wonder whether she has any limits in her talent. She uses a looping pedal to layer sounds through her keyboard, beatboxes, harmonizes and builds a song right in front of her audience. It is this live aspect of song production that makes Fatima’s show so fascinating and well worth seeing.
Fatima released her first EP Womb in the June 2017 with guest appearances by Wycliff Gordon, Herb Smith and production by Jimmie Highsmith Jr and Paul Boutte.
