Rebecca Pronsky is a born and raised Brooklynite whose music confidently straddles the boundaries of country roots, jazz, rockabilly, and folk.
She creates a distinctive sound, which at times feels like The Smiths relocated to Nashville or Stevie Nicks singing with Ennio Morricone.
A singer since elementary school, Rebecca added songwriting to her repertoire around age 16 when she picked up the guitar for the first time. She went on to study music at Brown University. Upon returning to Brooklyn, she was introduced to Rich Bennett, who quickly became her producer and guitarist. The two have been touring together ever since, sharing stages with Shawn Colvin, Loudon Wainwright III, Madeleine Peyroux, Josh Ritter, and Peter Case, among others.
Rebecca’s song "Hard Times", about the 2008 banking crisis, was featured on NPR Song of the Day. Her 2013 album Only Daughter was named a “Top 10 Country Album of the Year” by the UK’s The Telegraph. Her songs have appeared on television shows such as Breaking Amish, Usta Usta, and 90210. She recently appeared singing on an episode of NPR’s “This American Life.”
Rebecca's new record "Witness: Hillary's Song Cycle" is a concept album about the inner world of Hillary Clinton in the weeks following the 2016 election. It will be released November 8, 2017.
