"The Animal Kingdom is one of the most unique and creative albums of 2017. While The Gringos may be Brazil’s best kept secret they certainly deserve a large global audience. The musicianship is top notch with great performances all around," writes Pete Francis, editor-in-chief, Blues Rock Review.
Based in Brazil, the quintet came together in phases, guided by both chance, fate and drive. In 2012, vocalist João Castilhos and guitarist Jimmy Huntington, friends who met in Los Angeles, CA, moved to Itajubá, MG and met guitarist Daniel Friend there - living in Brazil since 2009 - and quickly began composing their debut album. In 2013, drummer Guilherme Paiva, the only Brazilian in the group, was invited to join the band. Finally, in 2014, bassist Justin Hansen was chosen by the band.
Since then, the group has closed a partnership with Brazilian label Monstro Discos, played over +200 shows in the last three years over the corners of Brazil. They are now working to expand their sound internationally.
