Albin Lee Meldau hails from Gothenburg, Sweden, the son of a British punk rocker dad (Max Meldau) and a Swedish jazz singer mom (Annika Blennerhed).
Annika was also a music teacher, while Max also worked as a stage lighting director, so Albin grew up immersed in music and theater from an early age. Albin began singing in the church choir and played trumpet as a child. His father was a fan of rhythm & blues, and Albin grew up listening to reggae, developing a particular love for Bob Marley.
In 2015, Albin posted a demo of his song “Lou Lou” on his Soundcloud page and began to gain notice. Albin worked with producer Björn Yttling on his Lovers EP, which he self-released in 2016. Lou Lou started having considerable success on Spotify, quickly racking up millions of streams and reaching #1 on Spotify's Viral 50 chart in five countries. He signed with Astralwerks later that year, and the label re-released the Lovers EP.
In 2017, NPR Music named him one of their must-see artists at SXSW, and featured him as part of their popular Tiny Desk Concert series, writing that “his voice is breathtaking, soulful, thunderous and impossible to ignore.” Albin made his debut at the Bonnaroo Music + Arts Festival and released his Bloodshot EP in the summer of 2017.
