Primordial Creative is the studio name of Arizona multimedia artist David Miller, producing a singular brand of psychedelic and soulful trip hop and ambient to match his video art and animation work.
Raised in Omaha, NE in the 1980s and 90s, Miller was deeply absorbed by the crossover acts of the era- bands like Pop Will Eat Itself, Meat Beat Manifesto, Consolidated, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails and Jesus Jones that mixed rock, rap, and electronica into a thrilling soup. As he grew up, in golden age of electronica, it was acts like The Future Sound Of London and Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 2 that crafted otherworldly soundscapes that blurred the lines between song craft and art. The final ingredient to the Primordial Creative sound was a dedication to the left wing, humanitarian artist- from stadium-fillers like U2, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen and Midnight Oil to the classic protest singers Phil Ochs and Woody Guthrie. The Primordial Creative music project aims to blend the creative sampling aesthetic, otherworldly atmospheres, and solid songwriting with a humanitarian bent.
As an animator and visual artist, Miller supplied music videos for Pop Will Eat Itself ("Angry Man's Deathbed", "They Can't Take What You Won't Let Em Have"), Jesus Jones ("Stripped"). A current project of the studio is an animated documentary concerning Phil Ochs and how cultural crisis affects the lives of political artists.
