The Australian singer/songwriter has received a lot of attention in 2006 from John C. Mitchell`s film SHORTBUS.
Besides the theme song In the End he wrote further songs performed in the film by himself and featured on the Shortbus Soundtrack. He provided vocals for songs (by Yoko Kanno) of the animation-serials GHOST IN THE SHELL and COWBOY BEBOP. His self-titled debut Scott Matthew was released in 2008. In the same year he recorded a duet for his Christmas Single - Silent Nights with his Aussie friend and colleague Sia. 2013 he released his personal hit-parade with A covers-album Unlearned. In a wide varity of songs he discovered, felt and worked out the emotional core with a lot of respect (I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Annie's Song). The album Life Is Long together with the Portuguese composer Rodrigo Leão (Madredeus) followed in 2016. Scotts latest album is titled Ode to Others (2018). With this record there is a departure from the subject of romantic love and the disappointments that can come from such endeavors. Instead this collection of songs pays homage to love in a broader sense. Honors are bestowed to family (Where I Come from), friends, the mistreated both alive and deceased (The Wish), actual places, his Australian childhood (Flame Trees) or his adult home of New York.
