Harnessing the new-wave sensibilities of golden-era Blondie while keeping their feet firmly planted in the alternative vibe of early Pixies, Atlanta’s Lesibu Grand (pronounced Le-SEE-boo Grand) , centered around the songwriting duo of Tyler-Simone Molton and John Renaud, combines charisma, style, and song-craft to their brand of indie rock.
To hear the band tell it: “Our special sauce comes from our relationship, both the obvious differences - age, race, and sex - and our musical ones." These differences fuel their creative output. Says, Tyler-Simone, "we are striving to fill a large gap, one which gives us ample room to explore the human condition.”
All of which couldn’t be more appropriate for a band steeped in Atlanta’s culture, a melting pot that beckons as a new American cultural hub. Given Atlanta's burgeoning time in the limelight, now is the perfect moment for Lesibu Grand, a band whose urgency, broad range of influences, and pop sensibility has never felt more timely.
Their latest single, “Jennifer, My Girl,” mixed by Dan Dixon and inspired by Molton’s own relationship with her sister, demonstrates the band's love of genre-defying music. Lyrically, the song's expression of empathy in troubling times strikes deeper than expected. "Of course, we must open our eyes to reality," says Renaud, "but we also need to be comforted and nurtured." With "Jennifer, My Girl," a new and much needed compassionate voice is heard.
