Avelia Moisey plays melodic, eclectic music featuring cool jazz sounds with hints of Latin, soca, South African and classical music, providing a variety of sounds using trumpet, flugelhorn and voice.
Avelia’s debut solo album ‘From the Shadows’ was released in November 2019 and includes her instrumental ‘Contemplating Life’, which reached the Finals of the UK Songwriting Contest 2019. All tracks are written and performed by Avelia, with Bruce Boardman on piano; the album was recorded by Fayyaz Virji.
Since having children Avelia co-wrote, and performed in, the 2-woman show “Ifs, Buts & Babies” (sharing the Delights, Dilemmas & Disasters!).
“A beautiful, funny and poignant show with lots of laughs and real heart. Great songs too.” [Neil Foster, BBC Radio York]
Now those babies are significantly older, Avelia continues to write and play her own music, alongside covers, mostly as a solo act (using backing tracks), or as a duo with pianist.
In her life BC (before children), Avelia’s worked as a professional trumpet player included gigs, TV, radio, recording, and UK & international tours with artists such as Marti Webb & Jane MacDonald; and playing in the bands of many West End shows (including Jolson, Calamity Jane, Cats). She also performed under her own name playing both classical concerts (with brother Alvin Moisey) and jazz gigs (with Bruce Boardman).
