SYR (sire) is a unique Celtic Folk Rock band from Columbia, SC. Taking inspiration from Celtic history, stories and myths, SYR blends their own unique musical backgrounds to create powerful songs with themes like battle, love, loss, and victory.
Front man Kyle MacCallum founded SYR on the belief that the rich heritage of the Celtic Nations could be brought to life in a contemporary musical style with broad audience appeal.
From humble beginnings at pubs and local venues in SC, SYR has become a welcome addition to larger Celtic festivals and events. Over the last few years, they’ve performed at the New Hampshire Highland Games, the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem, PA, Longs Peak Highland Games in CO, Savannah St. Patrick’s Day, Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, Tartan Day South, and many others. Several new festivals are booked for 2020 as the band’s reputation for a high-energy performance grows, including Pikes Peak Celtic Fest and Niagara Celtic Heritage Festival.
The band has also been featured in Irish Music Magazine, 67 Music Podcast, Marc Gunn’s Irish and Celtic Music Podcast, and others. Their music is played regularly on Celtic music programs across the US, and internationally via Celtic Music Radio. SYR has shared the stage with such established groups as Albannach, Enter the Haggis, Seven Nations, Red Hot Chili Pipers, Glengarry Bhoys, Saor Patrol, Tuatha Dea, the Steel City Rovers and Barleyjuice.
