American hard rock band Junkyard were formed in 1987 by a group of Los Angeles club circuit musicians.
The original lineup featured David Roach (vocals), Chris Gates and Brian Baker (guitars), Clay Anthony (bass), and Patrick Muzingo (drums). Signing to Geffen Records, their 1989 self-titled debut album offered "trashy metallic boogie" somewhere between Great White, Dokken, and ZZ Top. Two years later, Sixes, Sevens & Nines showed that the songwriting partnership of Roach and Gates had matured considerably, with emphasis on the music rather than the band's image. On their second album, producer Ed Stasium achieved a harder and bluesier sound (somewhat akin to Lynyrd Skynyrd) without pushing Junkyard in a blatantly commercial direction. Anthony was replaced by Todd Muscat shortly before the album's release, but despite recording more material, the band was dropped by Geffen in 1992.
Junkyard disbanded not long afterwards, and nothing much was heard of the various members until a live album was issued in 2000. Gates, Roach, Muzingo, and Muscat elected to revive the band, adding Tim Mosher (guitar and vocals) to the lineup on 2003's Tried and True, a mini-album of old and new songs. The band continued touring in the United States and Europe, returning in 2008 with Put It on Ten and Pull the Knobs Off!, an album culled from unreleased material that was originally recorded for a 1987 demo. After yet another period of quiet, the band made a live comeback in 2014 and released a pair of new songs in 2015 ("Faded" b/w "The River"). Junkyard made their studio return in 2017 -- nearly three decades after their prior LP -- with the album High Water (Acetate Records), which debuted at number 24 on the Billboard hard rock chart. ~ TiVo Staff, Rovi
