In 2008, Keenan released his first solo album “Today This Year”, produced by Grammy nominated producer Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson, REM). Recorded at the legendary Avatar Studios (Power Station) in Manhattan with a 12-piece band. The album renewed a focus on Keenan’s Americana-fueled rootsy sound, over a unique backdrop of electronic and country textures.
Keenan’s follow up LP was entitled “Fits and Starts”, and marked his first self-produced album. Engineered by Alex Lipsen (Nada Surf, Phosphorescent, Okkervil River) and featuring bassist James Preston (Maybird, Zachary Cale, Sam Kogon, Basement Band), drummer Rob Heath (Madison Square Gardeners, Justin Townes Earle, Awards Banquet), guitarist Kirk Schoenherr (Chet Faker, John Kengla) and keyboardist/vocalist Jen Keenan. The album was a further exploration into Keenan’s fascinations, syrupy pop & fuzzed out psychedelia.
