The Donald Sinta Quartet, First-Prize Winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, has earned praise from audiences and critics alike for its virtuosic performances, compelling recordings, and distinctive repertoire.
Hailed as “…a tight-knit ensemble exploding with power and virtuosity and an un-concealable ambition to connect with its newly found listeners” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), the DSQ performs entirely from memory. Named for its mentor, legendary University of Michigan saxophone professor Donald Sinta, the quartet’s most recent successes include the Gold Medal at
the Fischoff Competition, the Alice Coleman Grand Prize of the Coleman Chamber Competition, First Prize in Winds at the M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition, and First Prize at the North American Saxophone Alliance Competition. In 2019 they released their debut recording, Collider, on CAG Records, having previously been featured in a concerto recording in 2011 with the Michigan Symphony Band that included William Bolcom’s Concerto Grosso. For that recording, Audiophile Audition declared them “superb musicians” and American Record Guide called the concerto “the highlight of the album. Touring internationally with programs of unmatched breadth, DSQ are Selmer-Paris Artists and perform on Selmer Paris Saxophones exclusively.
