A choir kid through childhood who’s real exposure to the music he makes now came via hours spent online, Ruben is the product of his generation: an introspective songwriter with a knowledge of music formed by the internet. At 14, he started making diaristic and emotional pop music, but it would take him 8 years of toiling at his craft for him to write the lyrics for the track that would make him, “Walls”.
It was an uncomfortable process at first, but Ruben is learning how to put everything he’s got into his lyrics. He is “starting to realise that I should be doing what I’ve always done. It could never be wrong if it came from my core. It’s saved me. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on why I am the way I am, and how I can be a better person.”
The material that has come from those years of creating – including his hugely successful 2019 cut "Lay By Me", which garnered strong chart placements across the Nordics – is an anthemic collection of lovelorn pop tracks that form the inspiration and backbone of a new EP, due later in 2020. He’s a nervous thinker, but the music are captivating examples of storytelling that will pull fans starry-eyed into Ruben’s aura for years to come.
