Felix Riebl is a composer, director and singer based in Melbourne. He is the band leader, frontman, and principal songwriter of the internationally acclaimed band The Cat Empire, who have made 8 studio albums (including two #1 Australian releases), achieved multi-platinum album sales, and gained a reputation as one of Australia’s great live bands on some of the world's most iconic stages over the past 18 years.
Riebl branched out in 2011 with a debut solo album, Into the Rain, and in 2016, Paper Doors. Paper Doors was recorded with Andy Baldwin (Bjork, Neneh Cherry, The Cat Empire’s self-titled debut) and horn maestro Roscoe James Irwin (Washington, The Bamboos, Paul Kelly), Ben Edgar and Daniel Farrugia (Goyte, Angus and Julia Stone, Missy Higgins), Ryan Monro and Ollie McGill (The Cat Empire) at Sing Sing Studios in Richmond, Victoria. It features atmospheric duets with Martha Wainwright, Little Birdy’s Katy Steele and Emily Lubitz of Tinpan Orange.
As well as touring and continuous song-seeking travel, Felix has composed music for Fireworks (Darling Harbour, 2012+13), The Commonwealth Games Athletes Parade (Melbourne 2006 with TCE), White Night Melbourne (2013).
In 2015, Felix and Cat Empire co-founder Ollie McGill formed Spinifex Gum. The project grew into a collaboration between Lyn Williams (AM) of Gondwana Choirs, Deborah Brown (Bangarra), the all-female, all-Indigenous teenagers of Marliya from Cairns.
