John James Renfrow (born April 27, 1987), is an American music producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter.
An artist in the Electronic music genre, he is noted primarily for his behind the scenes work as a songwriter and producer. He also creates music within many other styles and genres.
Born and raised in Seattle, WA, John discovered his love for music at an early age. He started learning the piano by the age of six on a keyboard his Dad gave to the family on Christmas. At age ten, John’s Dad introduced him to the guitar, encouraging him to master the instrument on his own. Guitarists like Joe Walsh, David Gilmour, and Carlos Santana were among his biggest influences, inspiring him to create a unique style of his own. Unable to read music and without formal training, John was upset that he couldn’t transcribe the music on to paper. This frustration lead him to learn bass, drums, and elements of production.
After years honing his craft, John’s songwriting ability gained the interest of international artists and DJs, looking to remix his music. This ultimately garnered the support of renowned DJs such as Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, and Andy Moor. Requests started coming in from artists all over the world, asking John to write for them. Releases on Tiesto’s Black Hole Recordings raised his profile, and his collaborations with artist/producer Brian Laruso earned the support of Roger Shah, who prominently featured them on his Magic Island compilations.
