Country singer and songwriter Canaan Smith, born August 24, 1982 in Williamsburg, Virginia, grew up singing along to everything he heard, from country to alternative rock, from George Strait to Rage Against the Machine, and something of that everyman variety and vitality drives his best songs.
He relocated to Nashville during his college years and began to gig in the local bars and clubs, eventually landing a publishing deal with Disney Music and a recording contract with Mercury. Mercury released his debut single, "We Got Us," early in 2012, with a second single, "Love You Like That," following in 2014 in advance of his Brett Beavers- and Jimmy Robbins-produced debut album, Bronco, which appeared in June 2015. "Love You Like That" turned into a number one hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, helping elevate Bronco to a number four debut on the Billboard Country Albums chart upon its June 25 release. Another Top 40 single, "Hole in a Bottle," followed before the album's cycle wound down. Smith returned in 2017 with the singles "Like You That Way" and "This Night Back." ~ Steve Leggett
