Sofia Torchia

  1. 1.
    Shut Your Mouth
Sofia Torchia was raised in a medieval town in Tuscany called Barga, with less than ten thousand people.
At the age of 17 she picked up her first guitar and, inspired by the cultural adjustments and struggles moving halfway across the world to Adelaide, she began writing Beatle-esque pop songs. With a background of an Honors Degree in music, Sofia’s songwriting has emerged through arranging layered and intricate instrumentations. Her self-produced compositions balance electronica with r & b vocal inflections and rhythms.
In May she released her first single Shut Your Mouth which hints at a wistful desire to return to the Prince era reverb. Its quintessentially pop sound with big drumbeats and a catchy melody is the result of a songwriting collaboration between Sofia Torchia and fellow Adelaide based producer/songwriter Mario Späte. The lyrics ‘do you remember how it used to feel’ saturate the song with nostalgia, as Shut Your Mouth revels in the growing confidence of someone who doesn’t need to be saved by a flickering relationship to be ok.
