Awarded Jazz Act of The Year, New England Music Awards. Listening to the lyrics of Englander Lacy Kay, is like taking a dive into her life through the imagery of her past, present and dreamlike state.
Genre-splicing flavors of funk, classic soul and modern jazz. Lacy grew up south of London, immersed in soul music. After an international move to Northeast USA, it was there Lacy (vocals and lyrics) connected with band mates, Aaron Robertson (drums), Moira Applebaum (keys), and Matthew Edwards (bass).
Writing as a collaborative collective it’s hard to pinpoint their exact genre. Energetic live performances have drawn comparisons to Amy WinehouseHiatus Kaiyote and Emily King With their two studio recorded mini-album volumes you can hear inspirations of AdelePaloma Faith and Lianna la Havas
They are currently working on Volume III of their four part mini-album series. A concept devised by Lacy when healing from the aftermath of a traumatic loss of love. Each volume tells the story of a broken relationship, the evolving emotions of realization, hurt, anger and self acceptance. Musically and lyrically capturing vulnerability with naked questioning and brutal candor. Half way through the series with X, Volume I and O, Volume II Listeners can sink back and let the four and a half songs take you into the depths of your emotions.
They recently recorded two raw, one take, live tracks "Fk Yourself" and "Holding Back Tears". Both songs were released with accompanying live videos
