Stein (initially Einstein) is the performing moniker of Jamaican dancehall vocalist and songwriter Jermaine Shaw.
His music is primarily geared toward partying, with slick, bubbly production and lyrics focusing on sex and dancing, but he also has grittier material, heavy with gun talk. Shaw began performing at an early age, and was nicknamed Einstein by his cousin. He began releasing singles during the mid-2000s and worked with producers such as Stephen McGregor, Jordan McClure, and David Hayle. After breaking out with 2007's "Calibre," he toured Europe for the first time in 2008 and built an international fan base. He guested on Major Lazer's 2009 debut Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do, released the single "Killing Time" with dubstep/drum'n'bass producer Noah D, and wrote songs for Bounty Killer and Beenie Man. In 2012, he signed a management deal with Caribbean music distributor Fox Fuse and formed a label called New Planet Records. He continued releasing numerous singles ranging from soca to lovers rock, and issued full-lengths All or Nothing (2013), Determination (2015), and My Story: The Next Chapter (2017). ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
