Vivian Cook is a musician from California who makes indie pop that lands in a distinctive territory between singer/songwriter and rock musical.
Raised in Palo Alto, she attended Georgetown University and earned degrees in theater and theology before heading to Los Angeles with the aim to record an album. Her full-length debut, The Long Shot, was named after the subject line of an e-mail she sent to R. Walt Vincent (Pete Yorn, Liz Phair) asking him to produce her first record. He said yes, and Cook released the finished LP in September 2015. She played piano and guitar on the album in addition to singing and writing all of the songs. Cook went back east to appear in a regional production of Heathers: The Musical in 2016, then relocated to San Francisco. After receiving airplay on the West Coast, and then the East Coast and Europe, The Long Shot was picked up by Omnivore Recordings, which gave it a proper label release in January 2017. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
