PRECYSE (formerly known as Philip Walker) was born in Redwood City, California, and was raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma by the beautiful and resilient, tough but loving, Toni “Precious” Walker -- a true beacon of single motherhood to PRECYSE and his four other siblings. PRECYSE was initiated quickly into the musical family group “The Walker Brothers.” In addition, his aunt Jayne was a SOUL songbird. Surrounded by musicians on all sides, PRECYSE cultivated his passion for music by learning to sing Shirley Caesar and Andre Crouch, culminating in a performance in front of his entire elementary school, thereby setting his musical destiny from childhood.
PRECYSE is inspired by a number of artists, mainly soul artists from the 60s and the 90s. He says that 60s artists such as Jimi Hendrix and James Brown bring out the fire and radiance in his soul, whereas Nina Simone and Lauryn Hill influenced him to seek community through music. Aside from making music, PRECYSE spent 11.5 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and served 3 combat tours in Iraq.
