YVI writes melancholic, though comforting storytelling songs. YVI is a Dutch formation founded by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Diederick Brandsma.
YVI conjures soul-raising alternative folk and indie rock akin to Damien Rice, Glen Hansard and Bon Iver. In addition to Brandsma, the band is comprised of childhood friends Lendert Andel, Sebastiaan van Sliedregt and Sijmen Wijnja.
In 2019, YVI released their debutalbum 'A Few Words Of Comfort'. They supported The Slow Show in TivoliVredenburg. On 20 June 2020 YVI will release their second record, a five-song EP entitled ‘control’ on Revanche Records . On 'control’, YVI describes his struggles with perfectionism. First single will be ‘Not Over You’, released on all streaming platforms on April 3rd.
Compared to YVI's rather traditional debut album 'A Few Words Of Comfort' (2019), 'control' is a lot more produced and contemporary. The violin and the band vibe reminiscent of singer-songwriters like Damien Rice and Glen Hansard has made way for synthesizers, drumcomputers and arrangements in the style of Bon Iver and Radiohead
