Late Works is a permutable collective of artists, musicians, film-makers, writers, designers and dancers who perform at a nomadic series of live intermedia events of the same name in London. Founded in 2018 by artist Joseph Bradley Hill the events have developed into a heavily process-based set of shows led by an ethos of indeterminate intermedia improvisation.
Their first studio album (Late Works: of Noise) released on Slow Dance Records in December 2020 was given’s #1 Compilation of the Year, pipping Late Night Tales: Hot Chip to the top spot. The album features six groups of musicians sampling and responding to a set of six original instruments sculpted by artists to create an album. The groups included members of black midi, Goat Girl, Sorry, 404 Guild, Martha Skye Murphy, Kiran Leonard, Powerplant & Curl Recordings.
The previous 5 releases are all live recordings of their events, from a voice-like trio of instruments “reading” audiences responsive writing for At First Sight, to live looping soundtracks for looped films in LOOP.
