Chow's versatility in his sound knows no bounds. His biggest influences include André 3000
, Lil Wayne
, & Mac Dre
, which is reflected in his writing style - a fine balance between flourishing imagery, ridiculous wordplay, offbeat flows, and fun. The sounds in Chow Mane's music range from experimental, dissonant trap to bright, melodic hip-hop hits, so no two songs sound alike.
Born in Monterey, California to a family of Chinese-Vietnamese refugees, Chow found solace in the diversity of experiences conveyed in hip-hop. During his childhood, Chow worked at his family's restaurant, where his uncle introduced him to artists such as Too $hort
& Snoop Dogg
. After his parents divorced, Chow began living with his mother in Salinas, California and his father in San Jose, California. Constantly travelling between the two cities and being exposed to the different lifestyles in both, he began rapping at 11 and producing at 15. In 2012, Chow attended UC Berkeley to study Political Economy, where he began to further develop his sound and meet other creatives.
