The band started in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2012 when lead singer / songwriter Gerrit Gmel began jamming with old friends and writing songs inspired by life events at the time. Moving to Sydney, Australia later that year, Gerrit re-established the band with new members. The new formation brings sax, acoustic guitar, keyboard, drums and bass together to take you on a journey from soulful acoustic melodies to foot thumping beats best described by one music blog Timber and Steel as “infectious and incredibly danceable.”
Since the start of 2016, COTW have played shows at Plan B Small Club and snatched a residency at Coogee’s iconic venue Selina’s. Their songs “Setting Out” reached international audiences through the syndicated radio show Passport Approved, was played in Triple J’s Roots N All and is a finalist in the Vanda and Young Songwriting Competition.
