Prison and Hip Hop have long been synonymous, usually from the street cred it can provide a rapper with a gangster image looking to glorify the persona with fans.  Rapper Alley Kat takes a different approach altogether more reminiscent of Johnny Cash playing famous prison gigs to humanize his incarcerated audience, and with Reparation Movement, he is taking that tradition into a whole new generation.
Packing all the authenticity he’d need to be real to his target audience, Alley Kat’s own experiences growing up spending time in the Foster Care system and bouncing around from friends couches began after his father, who raised him as single parent, was busted in the late 90s smuggling 1,886 pounds Cocaine across the border.  One of the largest seizures in Arizona history, according to Customs Enforcement at the time.
Against the backdrop of the startling statistic that nearly “half of all youth who are in the foster system end up in jail or prison within two years after aging out of the system,” Alley Kat launched Reparation Project.  A movement where his passion pulls from a raw, real relatability that comes across in his creativity and resonates instantly with fans.  Art with the kind of heart that inspires second chances through a brand of T-Shirts designed by inmates throughout the United States Penal System, it’s a movement Alley Kat actually founded with his father while he was serving his sentence:
