Dave Mackay is a pianist, singer and producer from Leicestershire, England.
After moving to New York in 2013, he released a pair of instrumental EPs (What We Become & Flood) and embarked on several self-booked tours of Europe and America, slowly building a loyal following. Eager to explore the craft of songwriting, he followed up with a full length record of vocal work (Restart) in 2016. Shortly before the release, he was hired to accompany singer Art Garfunkel at Glastonbury Festival and, ultimately, this led to a pause of solo work, and 3 years of touring as pianist for Garfunkel’s acoustic show.
Towards the end of 2018, after relocating to Los Angeles, an opportunity to revisit his solo work arose, and he found himself sharing a bill with Australian guitarist Plini. He joined Plini's band for a North America tour in 2019 and opened with a set of new original music.
During this tour, he released Three: Vol. 1 [Los Angeles], the first of a trilogy of EPs, with bassist Antoine Katz and drummer A.G. Steele. With collaborative improvisation at its core, each volume of the series will be made in a different city, and will explore the effect of different environments on the writing process.
Mackay wrapped up 2019 with a tour of Australia alongside Plini, Nick Johnston and Jakub Zytecki; a short stint on the road with YouTube duo Pomplamoose; and a trip to the Welsh countryside to record for English folk artist Sam Sweeney.
Three: Vol 2 will be released July 3, 2020.
