George Fenton has written scores for over 100 films and dozens of plays and TV programmes. He has received 5 Oscar nominations and won multiple Ivor Novello, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Emmy and BMI Awards and a Classical Brit.
First nominated for an Academy Award in 1982 with Ravi Shankar for the score to Richard Attenborough's biopic Gandhi, George went on to score another 4 films for Attenborough including 'Cry Freedom' and 'Shadowlands'. He has also enjoyed long collaborations with Stephen Frears, Andy Tennant and notably Ken Loach for whom he has scored his last seventeen films, the latest being 2019's 'Sorry We Missed You'.
Just some of the other films scored by George are 'Dangerous Liaisons', 'The Fisher King', 'Groundhog Day', 'You've Got Mail', 'The Wind That Shakes The Barley', 'I Daniel Blake', 'The Lady In the Van', last year's 'Cold Pursuit' and 'Red Joan' and Andy Tennant's forthcoming film, 'The Secret'.
George composed the scores for the BBC Natural History series, 'Trials of Life', which led on to him scoring the BBCs original 'Blue Planet', 'Planet Earth' and 'Frozen Planet'. He then created 'The Blue Planet in Concert', 'Planet Earth in Concert' and 'Frozen Planet in Concert', playing live across the world including The Hollywood Bowl - there are more concerts scheduled for 2020.
Recent theatre work includes Alan Bennett's play, 'Allelujah!' and 'Untold Stories' and the musical 'Mrs Henderson Presents'. He is currently writing a new musical.
