NÆ’s inquisitive electronic pop tingles the senses with bold synths and lyrical zingers.
Her sonic palette is a lively infusion of electronic, dark house, k-pop, and 80’s synth-pop influences. Continuing the lineage of female artists who create both art and music (St. Vincent's Annie Clark, Laurie Anderson, Björk, and Patti Smith) NÆ’s sound pushes the conventions of pop music.
Through her satire and performed caricatures, NÆ humorously comments on American aspirational lifestyles, the problems of systemic entitlement, and how unfettered access to technology enables closeted addiction. Her much anticipated release, 'Push Button Future', which is riddled with these themes, will be released in February, 2021. The album is a collaboration with Ryan Black (Blizzle), who has contributed to the album as an artist, Producer, and Mixing Engineer, and is founder of the Chicago-based record label, REB Records.
NÆ has been recently featured in Esthetic Lens Magazine, the Advance Your Art Podcast, the Artists of the Industry Podcast, and The COMP Art & Design Magazine. "NÆ has kept a diligent stride in her ongoing aesthetic investigations. Her sonic and visual inquiry offers penetrating comment into the metamorphosis of middle America," - The COMP Art & Design Magazine.
NÆ is the persona of Chicago-based artist, JaNae Contag. She is a visual artist and a Professor of Art at DePaul University in Chicago.
