In his song "Ponce Blues", Lester Rey strips down familial Caribbean rhythms and combines them with the modern blues sounds observed in his upbringing as a Chicago kid. Boogaloo and Latin Soul are his go-to genres but his latest release, Promesa, more rooted in hip hop, exhibits his ability to effortlessly travel between musical soundscapes.
Citing inspiration from Hector Lavoe, Curtis Mayfield, and Calle 13, his music can put you in your feels and can make you move. In short time, his career has taken him through Chicago's Latin music festival circuit, SXSW unofficial, and through several cities across the country on tour with Texas artist Gio Chamba. He has opened up for Reggaeton pioneer DJ Playero, performed alongside Rene of Calle 13, and has been recognized by Remezcla, Latina Mag, and the Chicago Tribune as an artist to watch.
