Cited as a flagship vocalist for the new wave of Scottish and UK jazz, fans and critics have been quick to embrace Georgia Cécile’s mix of jazz, pop, R&B and soul.
Tipped as 'One To Watch' by BBC Introducing, Winner, Best Vocalist at the 2019 Scottish Jazz Awards, and showcasing on BBC Scotland's 'Quay Sessions', Cécile’s stock is rising on the strength of her live performances and songwriting partnership with Euan Stevenson. “The momentum of the new wave jazz scene is amazing” she says.
Cécile grew up near Glasgow. Having caught the ear of Ian Johnston at iOcco Music, debut single ‘Come Summertime’ was released in 2018, with 2nd cut Blue Is Just A Colour dropping in August 2019, both tracks picking up significant UK airplay. Co-written with pianist Euan Stevenson, these early releases reference the pop sensibility of Cécile's many influences including Stevie Wonder. “The music cuts across musical boundaries and we want to bring it all to as broad an audience as possible. We’re searching for a new sound that’s relevant now - it’s time to mix things up a bit".
Cécile is performing UK shows throughout 2019 including the 606 Club in London, BAAD and Blue Arrow Clubs in Glasgow as well as Edinburgh, Glasgow and London Jazz Festivals. In-between these shows she is continuing work on her debut album in native Glasgow.
