Bambara is a Brooklyn based noise/punk band with a dark, Western slant. The trio consisting of twin brothers Reid and Blaze Bateh and William Brookshire formed in Athens,GA in 2009.
They moved to a basement apartment in Brooklyn shortly after where they self-recorded their debut LP DREAMVIOLENCE (2013). The acclaim from the release led to tours supporting A Place to Bury Strangers, Metz and Algiers. After returning home, Bambara recorded their dense noise collage EP NIGHT CHIMES (2014) and their apocalyptic sophomore LP SWARM (2016). SWARM, recorded by Ben Greenberg (Uniform, The Men), paved the way for Bambara to lead their own headlining tours in the US and Europe as well as supporting Girl Band and Liars in the US.
After Reid broke his hand onstage in late 2016, Bambara began performing as a 5-piece, allowing Reid to stagger around stage free of instruments. This change has added to their pummeling and unpredictable live shows — impressing noise-pop auteur Angus Andrew to the extent that he asked Reid and Blaze to join Liars as touring members in 2017.
Shadow on Everything (2018), Bambara’s first LP for Wharf Cat Records, represents a decisive step forward for the trio. They’ve always been adept students of noise rock and post-punk, constructing what NPR called their “beautifully dynamic nightmares,” but now they’ve transcended their early influences to produce a Western Gothic concept album that sounds as big as the desert sky looming over its characters’ lives.
