Satori Loser is the brainchild of 26-year-old singer-songwriter Tyler Wilson. The group formed in NYC in 2016 around Wilson's lyrical, vocal, and rhythm guitar compositions, drawing most notably on post-punk, art rock, jazz, shoegaze, and folk influences.
They've since been cutting their teeth in NYC clubs crafting a sound that ranges from shadowy, angular dance-punk vamps at one end to cinematic torch songs on the other. The band features Michael Pawlowicz on lead guitar, Dave Schnug on saxophone, Mike Stanley on bass, and Ben Cureton on drums. Lyrically, Wilson tends toward fractured, impressionistic narratives of both personal experience and sociocultural criticism. The eponymous debut LP, as well as its follow-up Know-No, was recorded and mixed at BC Studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn with producer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop, Swans, Herbie Hancock, etc). The new EP, Know-No, is an abstract state of the union address, an art punk "What's Going On?", a reassertion of feeling over thought in these hectic, emotionally shallow times. Shortly after its release Wilson will be relocating to his home state of California, specifically Los Angeles, to the very house in which he wrote the material that dominated the first half of the debut. This will be a clean slate, and a new lineup will have to be assembled for a third album which has already been written. Expect something different.
