Though his path has been different than most, DC James has always been wildly passionate about music.
Whether he was creating parodies and mash-ups of his favorites or secretly singing and line-dancing in the bathroom, DC has never been able to escape the intoxication of a well written song. After being “fired” from piano lessons at the age of eleven for not practicing theory, DC continued his musical education on his own by constantly indulging in his obsession with popular music and learning to plunk away at everything by ear. His early influences ranged from Elton John to Shania Twain to ABBA. He quickly became enamored with creating catchy tunes and continues to sharpen his skills by listening to current hit-makers and old favorites. Always the performer, DC has acted since the age of twelve and graduated from Guelph University with a BA in Drama. Ever oscillating between stage and song, DC moved to Toronto in 2009 and was able to blend his passions, earning leading roles in musical stage productions. In spite of his budding acting career, DC decided to put all of his energy into his music. In 2016 he fulfilled the dream of moving to California where he promptly stuck his head in the sand and has been writing and recording non-stop. The release of his debut single Christmas on Our Own brings DC’s cheeky lyrics and unmistakable hooks to the forefront, and gives the music world a brand new holiday hit that feels like an instant classic.
