Toronto-based Vivienne Wilder is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and film composer. Her tone is wry and adorned with an endearing world weary disinterest.
Like your punk rock half-sister, she's devoid of fist clenching sentimentality. Hers are morally ambiguous love songs. Thematically, Wilder is obsessed with the beauty and sadness in unrequited love, the secret worlds of self-destruction, and of millennial disappointed hope. Her sound and words embrace the traditional past and the anxious present, while eschewing the lure of political rant. Her live performances are Sybillic in force and yield comparison to PJ Harvey, Siouxie Sioux, The Cure, Thom Yorke and Fiona Apple. Wilder's songs are heard regularly on CBC, college radio and TV shows such as CBC's Kim's Convenience and Netflix's Northern Rescue. She has also composed soundtracks for short films (O Negative [2015], Down The Rabbit Hole [2019], On The Water [2020]).
