Marc-André Pépin is a Canadian composer and pianist. He released 6 albums of neoclassical music for piano : "Songs Without Words" in 2008, "Rendez-Vous" in 2010, "Variable Skies" in 2013, "Tempus Fugit" in 2018 and "Silent Nights" also in 2018 containing 16 variations for piano of the famous melody.
Two of his albums were nominated in the Instrumental Album of the Year category at ADISQ galas 2011 and 2018.
In 2020, during the break imposed by the pandemic, he finished composing and recording a new album entitled "Hibernation" (release on November 13th, 2020).
Hibernation is a metaphor for the experience of the past few months. We’ve come to expect the "unexpected" (L’innatendu). Confinement came suddenly. It resembled a distorted vacation where each day was a Sunday from yesteryear where everything was closed. The imposed pause in our hectic pace was "calming" (Apaisement) at first, but it was soon replaced by "concern" (Questionnement) and "Mixed Feelings". "Melancholy" (Mélancolie), "boredom" (Valse de l’ennui) and "inconsistency" (Inconstance) joined in despite some "loosening" (Relâchements) of the rules that helped us to manage. The end of confinement brought with it a "false joy" (Fausse joie), since too many constraints remained. However, there will be a "silver lining" (Embellie). When the confinement and the constraints end, there will be a "rebirth" (Renaître) and we will again enjoy typical human interactions.
