Nightjjar is the work of Bristol-based Aden Pearce.
Originally from the Thames Valley, Pearce has been involved in music his whole life – fronting various rock and metal bands as a teenager, he first became interested in production when a self-submitted four-track demo won a Kerrang! competition at 20.
He gained popularity playing solo acoustic gigs in the Reading area, developing a folkier side through his discovery of Nick Drake and Fairport Convention via Jeff Buckley and Led Zeppelin.
As Pearce’s sonic landscape grew he took cues from the likes of Bon Iver and Tame Impala to retire to his home studio and re-emerge as Nightjjar, adding loops and laptops to his acoustic-and-uke songs. ‘The King of Insincere’ was picked up by BBC 6 Music and Fresh On the Net, its eclectic mix of styles providing a blueprint for Pearce’s Nightjjar sound. He made appearances at Are You Listening? Festival and earned a support slot with Roddy Woomble of Idlewild before relocating to Bristol to hone his brand of electronic folk.
During lockdown Pearce has been working on an album, due for release at the end of the year. Entirely self-produced, first single ‘Caberfeidh’ reflects on his time in a Scotland retreat – foreshadowing the events of 2020 and beyond, as everyone hunkers down for the cold nights ahead.
